A GASTROPUB near Ilminster has been named among the best 100 gastropubs in the UK according to the Estrella Damm 2023 list.
The Barrington Boar, located in the village of Barrington, was among the first pubs named on the list, with it having placed 97th.
The Estrella Damm Gastropub Awards is created each year by an academy of several hundred judges spread throughout the UK who voted for who they think are the must-see gastropubs.
The academy is made up of food industry experts, chefs, operators, food writers, and journalists, all of whom keep a close eye on the market and the trends within.
The 51-100 section has been revealed day-by-day on the social media of Top 50 Gastropubs ahead of the release of the Top 50 on Monday, January 23.
What does The Barrington Boar have to offer?
Run by husband and wife team, Alasdair Clifford and Victoria Collins, the Barrington Boar describes itself on its website as a country pub and restaurant offering "modern British cooking" and "refined comfort food".
It has also been well-received on Tripadvisor, earning a 4.5/5 rating from 156 reviews.
The Barrington Boar prides itself on using "locally sourced, seasonal ingredients" which are cooked with "skill" and "passion".
This is achieved by building "trusted" partnerships with local producers who operate within just a few miles of the restaurant.
In terms of drinks, they have a number of changing guest ales from places such as Quantock Brewery and the Bristol Beer Factory.
Additionally, they also have a strong selection of cider choices, a "carefully created" wine list, and lots of spirits to choose from.
