MORE than 2,000 people have been introduced to the world of repair and reuse thanks to Somerset’s Fixy project.
Fixy is a granted-funded initiative run by Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) and Resource Futures.
It aims to promote and support the repair and reuse of electrical items across the county.
Since launching in mid-May it has attended nearly 60 events, speaking to 2,100 people about the benefits of repair and reuse and sharing information about the local opportunities.
Councillor Sarah Dyke, chair of the Somerset Waste Board, said: “Recycling is great, but reusing and reducing is even better.
“Fixy has been doing a wonderful job opening everyone’s eyes to the potential for repair and reuse– and the opportunities that already exist in Somerset thanks to the volunteers who run repair cafes and similar groups.
“At the same time it’s helping unwanted items find their way to some very deserving causes, a great win-win for everyone involved”.
