FIREFIGHTERS struggled to locate a car that shot off the road and rolled down a bank with the driver trapped inside.
Crews from Yeovil Fire Station with two fire engines and a heavy rescue vehicle, along with a supporting officer, were sent to respond to a call from the driver involved in a one-vehicle collision on the A3088 at Montacute.
The driver was only able to tell Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service control that the incident at 9.38pm yesterday (Wednesday, June 1) as "just outside Yeovil".
A service spokesperson said: "Locating the vehicle initially was difficult due to the driver not knowing their exact location and having travelled through undergrowth and down a bank. Crews struggled to locate the vehicle.
"Once located, crews confirmed there had been a one-vehicle road traffic collision which had come to rest in a ditch on its side.
"Crews successfully extricated the driver using blocks and chocks to stabilise the vehicle and the use of a full roof flap to enable on scene ambulance crews to gain access to the casualty and extricate them out of the car safely.
"The casualty was conveyed to hospital by ambulance and the incident was handed over to the police."
