A POPULAR 25-year-old Easter tradition returned to the streets of Stoke-sub-Hamdon last Monday after two years away due to Covid.
The children of Castle Primary School paraded through the village's streets on April 4 wearing Easter bonnets and carrying models they made for the occasion.
Residents lined the street for the event, which has been held in Stoke-sub-Hamdon for a quarter of a decade.
Steve Morton, executive head of school at Castle Primary, said: “It was wonderful to be able to return to the time-old tradition of our Easter bonnet parade at Castle Primary School.
“After a two-year gap, the school was joined by our local community to celebrate Easter.
“All the children created bonnets and Easter sculptures that they proudly paraded around the village to rapturous applause.
“The children made us proud and the support from our local community for the event was a welcome return to pre-pandemic times.
“It was a welcome lift to everyone's spirits.”
Castle Primary School is part of the Redstart Learning Partnership, a multi-academy trust of 10 primary schools in South Somerset.
A spokesperson from The Redstart Learning Partnership added: “The Easter parade is such a wonderful tradition, it has been a disappointing two years knowing the children have been unable to don their bonnets and parade through the streets of Stoke.
“We are thrilled to see the Castle Primary School parade back on and what a fabulous display of brightly coloured bonnets.
“A very well done to all involved and thank you to the residents of Stoke in supporting our wonderful pupils.”
