A MAN in his sixties has died after a crash in Somerset this morning.
At around 9.20am, a vehicle crashed into a tree on the central reservation of the A303, near the Podimore roundabout.
Fire crews were called to the scene and said the car had burst into flames after the crash.
Sadly, an Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson has now confirmed the death of the man.
"The A303 remains closed eastbound between Ilchester and Podimore while emergency services attend the scene of a single vehicle collision which happened at about 9.20 this morning," the spokesperson said.
"Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
"Sadly, we can confirm that a man in his sixties has died.
"His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers."
Anyone who witnessed the crash, or was driving along that section of the A303 in the time leading up to the collision and have dashcam footage or any other information, should contact police on 101 and give the reference 5221209203.
