FORMER Ministry of Defence homes have hit the market for the first time as demand for properties in the South West reaches its highest level in a decade.
Research from Nationwide has revealed house prices in this part of the country have grown at the fastest rate since 2010, as buyers re-evaluate what ticks all the boxes for a property post-lockdown.
Perfect timing then for Annington, created in 1996 with the purchase of properties from Ministry of Defence (MOD), to release several homes for sale in the picturesque Somerset village of Ilchester. From August 6, a selection of two-bedroom maisonettes with private gardens have become available.
These former Ministry of Defence properties, once connected to the nearby Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton, have been given light refurbishment works throughout.
Louise Saunders, Sales and Marketing Manager at Annington, said: “Buyers looking for a total lifestyle overhaul are turning their eyes to rural Somerset. Ilchester is a medieval town with plenty to offer a 21st Century buyer, including good schooling options, pubs and restaurants, cafés, and lots of outdoor space.
“Our properties in Ilchester offer an excellent starter option for first time buyers looking to get a foot onto the property ladder. We’re expecting many of these properties to sell quickly and recommend that buyers enquire now if they are interested in purchasing.”
Once a significant Roman base, Ilchester is now a tranquil village tucked into the south-easterly corner of Somerset and has a lot to offer people considering making the move there. With a range of amenities, including a doctor’s surgery, hairdressers, two public houses, cafes and a convenience store it is also easily accessible to a number of riverside and country walks. Nearby Ninesprings Country Park also offers native wooded and heritage landscaped garden walks and is home to wealth of local wildlife.
Just over a mile away is Yeovilton, home to RNAS and museum. The larger town of Yeovil is just slightly further afield, and offers a range of shopping and recreational activities, including a leisure centre, the Quedam Shopping Centre, a cinema, bowling alley, and cafes and restaurants.
Andy Nott, Branch Manager at Fox and Sons, said: “It’s a manic market at the moment, sales have been on and off in days with busy waiting lists when properties come available. We’re already seeing lots of interest in these properties from first time buyers and downsizers.”
Prices start from £125,000 for a two-bedroom home. For more information, visit www.fox-and-sons.co.uk.
