A SOMERSET farm has scooped an industry award for its organic food box scheme.
The 20-strong team at Coombe Farm Organic, near Crewkerne, is celebrating after winning the ‘Best of Organic Box Scheme’ award at this year’s Soil Association BOOM Awards.
The Best of Organic Market Awards are the UK’s only awards that recognise and celebrate the world of organic.
Designed to honour those behind the UK’s organic food and farming, championing innovation and celebrating those creating exceptional organic products that work for people, planet, wildlife and the climate, the awards saw 500 entries this year.
And it was Coombe Farm that came out on top in the Best of Organic Box Scheme category.
Jemima Marks, sales and marketing manager, said: “We set up Coombe Farm Organic six years ago to make the most of our organic herd.
"Our field to fork focus has always been on creating delicious meat in a sustainable way.
"Over the last year we’ve seen a 90% increase in the number of orders as more people choose to support organic farming practices with a more traceable production process.”
The BOOM Award judges said: “Coombe Farm Organic really embody the ethos of organic and what an organic shopper would want.
"We were particularly impressed with their Organic Balancing Meat Box – this company are innovative and forward thinking.”
Jemima added: “As we’ve been farming organically for more than 20 years, we’re so pleased there is now so much more discussion about the positive impact of regenerative on biodiversity.
"The team were ecstatic when we won seven coveted Gold awards at this year’s Taste of the West Awards a few weeks ago. So, to now win at the BOOM Awards is a testament to all our hard work.
"We’re so proud to showcase our organic principles and share the amazing produce that Somerset has to offer.”
Coombe Farm Organic was set up as a form of farm diversification in 2015.
With sustainability at its heart, the team have taken what was a by-product of the successful organic dairy farm, male calves, and by careful breeding, created award-winning beef.
The organic box scheme includes a curated monthly edition, different cuts of meat like steak or chicken boxes, BBQ boxes and a bone broth box packed full of collagen and flavour.
In Autumn 2020 a new range of organic retired dairy beef was launched, saving grass-fed animals from becoming ‘cull cows’ and their extended life enriches the farm pastures.
