A SCHOOL in South Somerset celebrated its 350th anniversary this week.
Chard School was founded in 1671, when the Manor House was gifted by William Symes to trustees for the purpose of a school.
Pupils at the school celebrated on May 20 with a variety of activities. They came to school dressed in Jacobean costumes and took part in Jacobean activities.
The Mayor of Chard, the Town Crier and the Mace Bearer also visited the school, and gave the children a talk during the celebratory assembly.
Headteacher Katie Hill said: “It’s incredible to think that children have been taught on our site continuously for 350 years.
"Our aim today is to mark this very important milestone in our school’s rich history. As our school songs says ‘300 years and more have passed and still our school remains’. We are very proud of Chard School.”
