LOTTERY players have helped a Somerset charity secure funding to save wildlife.
Yeovil Rivers Community Trust (YRCT) will get £6,000 from players of the postcode lottery to improve the quality of the country park.
Dodham Brook in Ninesprings, Yeovil, is set to undergo a drastic transformation to help protect the habitats of endangered species and create a landscape for people to enjoy.
The project will involve planting new wildlife and improve the quality of the brook, with a heavy focus on protecting endangered water voles. It will include aquatic benches, reprofiled banks and extensive planting of aquatic species.
Chair of YRCT Lorne Thomson said the trust is very excited about the project.
“The Yeovil Country Park is a huge asset to the town and we are very lucky to have it,” she said.
“The proposed enhancement works will help to make the park even more attractive and enjoyable for the public.
“We hope to attract new species of birds, insects and animals and help to protect the park and its wildlife from the negative impacts of climate change.”
She added that the trust hope to encourage new species of birds and animals to protect the park from the negative impacts of climate change.
YRCT has thanked the Postcode Local Trust and the players of the Postcode Lottery for their support.
Phase two of the enhancement project will focus on the Goldenstones footbridge section and the Ninesprings weir, which is set to be finished by May 2021.
