A MAN needed oxygen therapy after fire broke out at a home in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Fire crews from Chard and Martock attended the incident in Axminster, along with local firefighters.
The fire started in the downstairs of a home in Waggs Plot, Colston, at 3am.
The man had managed to get out of the property, but was suffering from smoke inhalation.
He was treated by firefighters until paramedics arrived on the scene.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews set to work with two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet.
"Crews also requested the attendance of a further fire engine to assist with the protection of surrounding properties."
They added: "The fire was contained to the room of origin however the rest of the property has received significant smoke damage. The cause of the fire was accidental."
Crews remained on the scene for a short time after putting out the fire awaiting arrival of a representative of the housing organisation to take over duty of care of the scene.
