PRIMARY school pupils in Chard have been writing letters to care home residents.
Residents at Yew Tree Cottage Residential Home, Hornsbury Hill, have received letters from students at The Redstart Primary School.
The letters are being sent to "spread some intergenerational joy" during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sarah Amrbridge, owner of Yew Tree Cottage, said the residents were "delighted and thrilled" to receive the them.
"It has put a smile on their faces," she said.
"The letters all had outstandingly neat handwriting and some of the stories were fabulous, in particular stories about pets and siblings.
"It is a wonderful a wonderful surprise and we are extremely grateful for the sentiment at this difficult time.
"The residents will certainly be responding and would be delighted if the children from The Redstart Primary could visit once Covid restrictions have been lifted.”
The letters, which have been involved in a quarantine process before being sent, are written by pupils in years 4, 5 and 6.
Miss Bendall, deputy headteacher at the school, said: "We thought it would be lovely to reach out to residents in a local care home by writing letters to them.
"Children in school from Years 4, 5 and 6 have worked hard to compose beautifully written letters to brighten the day of people who may be feeling lonely during these times.”
The Redstart Primary School is part of The Redstart Learning Partnership.
A spokesperson for the partnership said they were "delighted" to hear the children had been writing letters.
"We are delighted to hear that The Redstart primary pupils are writing and sending letters to the local residential home and spreading some cheer during these difficult times," they said.
"It is fantastic that the pupils are developing skills whilst doing such a good deed."
