THIS February, one Somerset town is bringing colour to the streets with two exciting projects.

Yeovil is set to take part in Window Wanderland and residents are being encouraged to light up and put a display in their windows between February 15 and 28.

Nearly 100 households and businesses in the town have signed up to take part so far.

“Yeovil town has excelled itself with its Christmas lights display and we wanted to explore the idea of a colourful celebration of our amazing town at another point in the winter to lift people’s spirits,” said Yeovil Window Wanderland project co-ordinator, Kara Bignell-Bird.

Yeovil Art Space, a community arts charity, has been awarded funding from South Somerset District Council (SSDC) for their window project.

Artists Hannah Bottomley, Stéphanie Max and Natasha Rand are working with Yeovil College Art students to create a 'Sky, Land and Sea' community display.

This artwork will also contribute to Love Yeovil's Window Artwork Project, which has also received funding from SSDC.

This project, like Window Wanderland, is set to brighten up Yeovil's town centre.

Love Yeovil's Window Artwork Project is working with Yeovil Art Space, Yeovil College and Yeovil College University Centre to instal pieces of artwork, graphics and photographs all with the unifying theme of 'Together we are Stronger'.

Residents who want to take part in Yeovil's Window Wanderland will also be given a free window making kit.

With support from Somerset Community Foundation Coronavirus Response Fund and Abri’s Community Fund an activity pack with instructions and all the materials that households need to create their window display has been put together by artists, Hannah Bottomley, Stéphanie Max and Natasha Rand.

Yeovil's Window Wanderland will take place from February 15 until 28.

Window Wanderland is a national event, double the number of locations across the UK and throughout the world have put together their own events during the pandemic because it is a Covid-safe way to bring the community together.

Yeovil Art Space is supporting the Yeovil event, working with volunteers, artists, creatives, and local businesses, charities and neighbourhood groups to bring the project together including Spark Somerset, Yeovil Town Council, Love Yeovil and Quedam Shopping Centre.
