A CORONAVIRUS testing site has been set up in Chard.

Chard Town Council agreed at a meeting on December 7 2020, to donate the Guidhall on Fore Street for free to the Department of Health and Social Care.

And so the Covid-19 testing station has been set up, with a pilot day taking place yesterday (January 20).

The site will be fully operational by this weekend and open from 8am until 8pm, seven days a week.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to use the Guildhall as a Covid Testing station," said the Mayor of Chard, Cllr Jason Baker.

"This will benefit not only the residents of Chard but also people living in our area. This will cut down on the need to travel to Taunton or Yeovil to take a test and enable people to walk in and be tested quickly and locally.

"I am pleased to see us working in partnership with the Department of Health & Social Care to deliver this service and to for us to be available in the future if a venue is required to help deliver vaccinations locally.”

The site will have ten testing bays, including two with disabled access and for use by families.
