CORONAVIRUS has put a stop to a lot of fun across the UK, but one Somerset care home is still enjoying laughter and games in lockdown.
Ongoing activities at West Abbey Care Centre, in Yeovil, include a new pen pal scheme, baking Christmas cakes, and celebrating international 'talk like a pirate' day.
Residents have been exchanging letters and photos with care homes from Wales, Scotland and England, as well as local Scout and Guide groups to see what everyone else has been spending their time doing.
Helen Colaço, general manager at West Abbey Care Centre said: “Ensuring residents feel engaged and connected within our homes is more important than ever. Our residents have really enjoyed being able to reach out to people all over the country.
"We provide a wide range of activities at West Abbey as part of the life enrichment programme for residents, and this one was very popular.
The activities coordinators Sarah, Matt and Stephen have been leading the fun and games, offering a choice of mental, physical and spiritual activities for those at West Abbey.
Residents have also taken part in gardening throughout all of the home and its gardens.
General manager Helen added: "Our varied activities programme allows us to provide stimulation of the mind, body and soul for residents in group activities, as well as one-to-one.
"We have also adapted ways to keep residents active, whilst ensuring that the group activities are smaller, adhering to current government social distancing advice.”
