A COLOURFUL collection of new residents have moved to a Somerset village for a creative scarecrow competition.
This is the fourth time in recent years Chaffcombe has held the event, with the latest to mark the harvest festival.
Elaine Drewer, one of the organisers, said: “Normally at this time we have a harvest supper, with proceeds going to Wateraid and farm Africa, but as that was out of the question we thought we would celebrate with scarecrows and a quiz.”
Veronica Bucknell and Tony Yates took first place with their Harvest Goddess, as well as providing four other scarecrows.
Second place went to Donald Trunk, created by John Selby and Lissie Wells.
Elaine added: “It has all been about having fun making them and seeing people enjoying them.”
