TWO men have been jailed for committing a burglary at a Somerset charity shop.
Daniel Bovey, 32, and Wayne Shortland, 35, forced entry into the store in Hendford, Yeovil, on June 18 and caused significant damage to the premises.
They proceeded to take the safe and charity box from the shop, stealing a quantity of cash.
Pipes to the bathroom had also been ripped off during the burglary, resulting in a large amount of water damage.
Both were identified on CCTV footage and arrested within days of the offence.
Searches of their properties discovered clothing that matched those seen in the CCTV footage.
Both pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary.
On Friday, August 17 at Taunton Crown Court, Bovey, of Newton Road, Yeovil, and Shortland, of Larkhill Road, Yeovil, were both jailed for two years and three months each.
DS Scott Chadwick, of the Impact team, said: “This conviction came about following good work from our Impact team, which focusses on tackling serious acquisitive crime offenders working closely partners in probation services and other police departments.
“We hope this conviction sends a message that we will always target offenders who carry out these crimes and will deal with them robustly.”
