MOTORISTS in Broadway made sure they stuck to the speed limit when the village's new Speedwatch group was out in force this morning (Friday, July 6).
Members were joined by police community Speedwatch trainer Simon Ward for an hour session from 8.30-9.30am.
The group formed at a parish council meeting a month ago and already has 13 members. It was set up after concerns from several villagers about speeding motorists.
Members are trained to use speed guns to monitor vehicles at four safe locations in the village. Details of speeding motorists are then passed to the police who can issue them with warning letters.
Speedwatch volunteer Carole Willmouth said: "We've monitored about 200 cars so far and nobody has been spotted speeding yet.
"The intent of the group is not malicious. We are not out to catch people, we are just trying to make them slow down."
PC Ward, who trains Speedwatch groups throughout the county, said: "We make sure that people operating the Speedwatch are safely off the road and that everything is overt, because this is about educating people, not catching them out.
"This is a new group that's operating very well.
"It's nice to see that the impact of the Speedwatch team has made people address their speed."
Any villages interested in setting up a Speedwatch team are being encouraged to contact their local police station on 0845-4567000 and ask to speak to their beat manager.
