MEMBERS were greeted to the June meeting by past president Cynetta Russell. She welcomed new member Jean Cooper and a visitor from New Zealand. Jerusalem was sung, before Cynetta introduced speaker Mr Francis Weston.
Francis had brought part of his large collection of mother of pearl. Having started in a small way with gaming counters, before progressing to elaborately decorated wooden boxes. Members were invited to open a box each and were delighted to find they contained a wide variety of other items, such as buttons, paper knives, bookmarks, teething rings and crucifixes, dating from 1640-1900. Linda Tucker gave the vote of thanks.
Current business was discussed, birthday cards given out, minutes read and accepted, and dates for forthcoming events given.
Judith Minter from Crimchard WI gave details of the recent annual meeting at the Albert Hall. Major items covered were milk and packaging campaigns, and the resolution to stop closure of community hospitals being passed by 6,000 votes in favour. The meeting concluded with refreshments and trading on the stall.
The next meeting is on July 19, when Tracy Curtis will talk about Dough Craft'.
