SOMERSET landowners and farmers are being urged to secure their estates as 40% of land in England and Wales goes unregistered.
Sixty per cent of land in England and Wales is now registered - a record rise of 15 per cent in just three years according to new figures from Land Registry released last week.
But this still leaves 40% of landowners without ownership guaranteed by the state.
In Somerset, 51.7% of land is now registered but almost 170,000 hectares remains unregistered.
