A PARTNERSHIP between Ilminster's Swanmead Community School and its African friends has been strengthened thanks to the Ilminster Lions.
Last Tuesday the Lions donated £1,000 towards a mosaic project celebrating the ties between Swanmead and its Zambian partner, St Luke's Secondary School, in Msoro.
Pupils from each school have designed a logo and during two days in September, Swanmead's effort, which depicts two trees interweaving with a red sun behind, will be made into a mosaic.
The Lions' donation, which followed fundraising at their June summer fete, will pay for a tutor and the materials used.
The British Council has added extra support to the Swanmead/St Luke's partnership, which began in 2002, by awarding three years' funding towards teacher exchanges and further curriculum projects.
