AT the Ilminster WI meeting on June 18, vice president Eileen Tutcher welcomed members and one visitor and distributed three birthday posies.

The record of the May meeting, financial and correspondence reports having been presented, various social activities were planned.

Representing Hearing Dogs for the Deaf', Wayne Hurren was invited by members Nancy Cox and Aline Lendon to describe the work of that organisation. Wayne's dog, Donna, watched quietly as her owner used slides to illustrate the training of dogs which then give independence, confidence and security to those with severely impaired hearing. Giving the vote of thanks, Faith Vince voiced appreciation for the insight into this little-publicised charity.

The flower of the month competition was won by Jean Frost and, while refreshments were served, members enjoyed a dog-themed quiz.

The meeting on July 16, Hats for all Occasions, ends over 40 years of WI meetings in the Methodist School Rooms. From September the venue will be the Minster Rooms on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm.
