SOME 260 children from Avishayes primary and pre-schools in Chard hit the road this morning (Wednesday, June 13) to learn how to get about safely.

Under the supervision of teachers, the children enjoyed a 25-minute walk around the Henson Park area before returning to class.

They were taking part in a scheme involving schools nationwide to create the world's biggest walking bus and support road safety charity BRAKE.

Year three teacher Katie Williams said: "It helped raise awareness of road safety and raised about £100 for BRAKE.

"The children loved it and they wanted to do it again straight away."
