CHARD'S Holyrood Community School is improving and its students make an outstanding contribution to the community.
That was the glowing verdict of OFSTED inspectors in a report released this week following an inspection in May.
Although Holyrood received an overall satisfactory rating, several areas were rated either good or excellent with particular praise reserved for the school's community work.
The report described Holyrood as a friendly school with great relations between students and teachers.
"The vast majority of parents have a positive view of the school and a striking number of parents wrote to express how happy their children are at school," it said.
The report also suggested areas for improvement, including tailoring activities to better meet the needs of individual students and applying strategies to achieve better results at key stage four.
Head teacher Maurice Hicks said: "We work very hard to ensure excellent relationships between staff and students as this is the basis for ensuring success.
"It is therefore very encouraging to have this feature of the school described as excellent in an OFSTED report.
"While the inspectors confirmed that academic results at Holyrood are in line with all national expectations, the school will continue working very hard to ensure that each student achieves the very best results possible."
Chair of governors Paul Tuffin added: "I feel this is an excellent OFSTED report that clearly shows how committed all of the staff are to continuing improvement across all areas of the school."
